The design for the sweet shop, located in Habikino city, Osaka.
For the requirement to design the space, they requested to put all the machines for making sweets in a small space about 231 sq.ft.
My idea was not “hiding” the kitchen from customers but “showing” it, then I made it to conceal and reveal the kitchen from the facade so that the natural light comes from outside throught the facade. I considered the space would be very vibrant by then.
For the material, I chose red cedar decking for the flooring and the wall since it is one of the exterior materials which are easy to maintain, considering it could make the small environment around facade look and feel bigger.
Also, by putting the red cedar details slantwaise 45 degree on the wall, it provides rhythm and eye stop in the long, monotonous space situation.
I wanted the space to make people at least a little bit pleased and amazed to it in the area that doesn’t follow the modern design.
